Binding Types

Saddle-stitching

One of the most economical binding options, saddle stitching is a form of binding in which the pages are folded and stapled in the centre. Saddle stitching is used widely for booklets or catalogues up to about 60 pages (dependent on cover options, paper thickness and paper type).

Perfect Binding

A widely used soft cover binding method, a one-piece cover is glued and wrapped around the spine. The edges are then trimmed down to create a ‘perfect’ custom book. Perfect binding is suitable for thicker books, and is sure to impress with use a variety of paper weights, colors and finishes.

Cone & Wire Binding

Cone (Plastic Spine) or Wire (Metal) Binding is a flexible and cost-effective binding method for applications such as reports or instruction / course manuals.  Ideal for booklets that need to open flat. Available with clear acetate cover & leather grain backing for durability.

Self-Cover

The term ‘self-cover’ means cover of the booklet is the same as the paper used for the interior pages. The most economical option, best used in saddle-stitching or booklets that don’t require longevity.

Thick Cover

Adding a thick cover is an affordable way to elevate your booklet or magazine to a professional standard and also increase durability.  From coated to uncoated stock, we offer many combinations of paper types.

Laminate

Enhance the appearance and durability of custom printed booklet with a laminated cover. Whether it’s a gloss laminate to make those images pop, a matte or velvet soft-touch laminate for a unique feel, a laminated booklet stands out from the crowd. Speak to us about your choice of Matte, Gloss or Velvet laminate to your printed catalogue or booklet.

Special Finishes

We can further enhance your printed booklets with special embellishments.

  • Spot UV – Create high impact by adding a clear, high gloss coating to specific areas.
  • Raised Scodix – Similar in effect to Spot UV, but slightly more raised to create a more textured look and feel.
  • Raised Metallic – Bring sophistication to your project with shiny, raised metallic print
  • Foil Stamping  – Involves the traditional method of imprinting foil onto paper, foil stamping creates lustrous finish perfect for high-end products.

While you can make your book virtually any size, consider your audience and effective design layout. The best size for your booklet will depend on the intended use and the amount of information and/or images you want to present within.

Standard A4 or A5 sized booklets and catalogues are most popular.  Creating a booklet in a standard size will help keep costs more economical.  We work with large sheets, and deviating from standard sizes can influence the amount of paper and materials used, potentially increasing the cost to you.

It is also important to keep in mind when considering the design for your custom booklets, portrait oriented booklets are much more affordable than landscape booklets.  This is because landscape booklets tend to require larger sheet sized for production.

Standard Sizes:
DL (99mm x 210mm)
A6 (105mm x 148mm)
A5 (148mm x 210mm)
A4 (210mm x 297mm)

We don’t just run machines, we’re in the business of visual communication and we believe it all starts with great design. It’s so often the deciding factor when your ideal client is choosing between you and one of your competitors.

Our in-house graphic designers can help create an alluring and eye-catching booklet or catalogue design that will serve it’s purpose of getting attention and attracting business.
